The first time I rode a train for travel vs fun was in Israel. My husband and I lived there for a year when we were first married and got to ride the train from the Galilee area to Jerusalem--at least I think that's where it was. It's been a few decades since that happened.Vickie McDonoughhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09698966142886006577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271375082145370896.post-3390869112519431752014-01-05T16:03:59.262-05:002014-01-05T16:03:59.262-05:00Hi Lena! Trains are still important for our economy, too. Maybe one day I will be able to take a train ride. Until then, I will live that experience through great novels. In St. Paul, he left waitress Mary Mehegan a large tip. She used it to enter a Milwaukee school in 1863. Four years later, she graduated and returned to St. Paul. There she married Jim Hill and "lived happily ever after." (I do love a good romance.)

My husband's cousin we visited over a weekend in Milwaukee years ago, let rooms to girls in the middle of the college area. How interesting that Mary would travel from St. Paul to go to school in Milwaukee. Wondering what she studied and how she and Jim stayed in contact after her first meeting of him. Also, that she was in school four years instead of two-year degree. Fascinating, in 1863.
