Teachers, Harvey Girls, and nurses were the same -- no marriage, because then they might get pregnant, and this wouldn't look good. The private one was my dad’s as he was a pastor and anyone calling his number would not want to be overheard. I recall a story my husband told regarding a party line. His cousin had a column in the local newspaper and would listen in on others conversation to learn interesting things to report in the paper. As long as you were quiet the other two parties didn't know you were listening in. cindyhuff11(at) gmail (dot)comJubileewriterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06681074948260157766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271375082145370896.post-22168093184010765382023-01-28T08:22:02.838-05:002023-01-28T08:22:02.838-05:00I don't have any funny operator stories, but m...I don't have any funny operator stories, but my grandma worked at the phone company in Detroit when she met my grandpa. I...Thank you for posting today, and Happy New Year! I remember when operators still ran the phone calls but I don't have any funny memories associated with it. I also remember party lines. We lived in the country so I was probably in sixth or seventh grade when those were done away with. I am appalled that operators couldn't be married, and that there were so many restrictions on dress. But I do understand it was a different culture back then. bcrug AT twc DOT comConnie R.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12038621934457678475noreply@blogger.com
