My grandfather always listened to baseball games on the radio and whetted my interest in baseball which I still love today. My other is of all us seated around the radio when I was 5 1/2 years old. We listened to FDR tell us we were now engaged in a war with Japan. That is one that truly etched on my mind.Martha W. As children, on Saturdays, we'd listen to programs like "Big John and Sparky." I have a vivid memory of holding a broom like a rifle and marching around the house to Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever." Our next door neighbor had a ham radio and would let us watch him talking to other "hams." I remember the "squeals" and "squeaks" the radio made.
