Then broke their word so many times when the officials made promises to them when moving them elsewhere. No wonder they turned hostile to whites. Thats why some who married whites didn't register for they didn't want to be recognized and sent away. I had a great-great grandmother on both my mother and dads side, but hard to find any information because they probably wouldn't want to call attention to themselves. On the Navajo reservation many families have what sounds like a first name--"Johnny" or "Charles"--for a last name because of that.
