My parents and grandparents always made sure we had fun with 'Santa Clause' but always taught us the real meaning of Christmas. Now they are all gone, so we don't have those houses to go to now. We are now continuing our own traditions we started when our son was born, and since we lost our mom in 2010 we have started a few new traditions. My son just got married, so we will start having part of our christmas with them, so that will be a fun new thing.

Its fun to start new things, but also sad that they are no longer with us. But its a blessing to know they are all having a wonderful Christmas in Heaven. Since my dad and I have such different interests, it is one of the few times that we do something together where neither one of us wishes we were somewhere else or doing something else. We put on some of my dad's old Christmas records and tapes and just enjoy being together.

My other favorite tradition is getting together with my mom's side of the family for a Christmas celebration. I always enjoy seeing my aunts, uncles, great-aunts, and cousins, playing games, and sharing good conversation. My dad's family doesn't meet anymore, so it's even more special to be able to meet with my mom's family.

mallori.norris@gmail.comMallori Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14152325907660128771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271375082145370896.post-35555021840177632102013-11-04T20:52:57.260-05:002013-11-04T20:52:57.260-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Mallori Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14152325907660128771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271375082145370896.post-31144038720705018242013-11-04T19:29:50.897-05:002013-11-04T19:29:50.897-05:00We used to celebrate Christmas Eve at my parents h...We used to celebrate Christmas Eve at my parents home. Christmas Eve dinner with oyster stew and lasagna. Then we would open presents and a few of us would try and make it to Midnight Mass. Now there are more kids scattered and grown up that it is harder to get together. My mom is 95 now and no longer has Christmas Eve at her home. Usually with some following along. When he got it home, the front door was blocked with our big tree. And from then until after Christmas we used the back door. Us kids strung popcorn for ropes on the tree. We kids took paper and made paper chains and different kinds of ornaments for our tree. And, Daddy had some red and green decorative ropes strung crisscross across the room in an X. Stockings were hung and we received an apple or orange and maybe a little candy there. No opening gifts until Christmas. And bible story read by dad. No bunch of gifts like now days. Mostly homemade things. You see we were a large family with little money, but lots of love and laughter. As I made my own home, I always decorated rope across the room like they did. Eventually changing to the silver shiny kind. Then we spent Christmas dinner at one of the siblings houses, taking turns each year. There were 4 of us in the same area. This was after sSanta and our own gifts at home. We still have our family gatherings each year but now with my 4 children taking turns. Larger homes. For we now have a very large group. I now have 19 greats! And, always a Manger scene. I also like a lot of manger scenes of Ornaments on my tree. And, ornaments from years past. I would love to win this book. I think it is too commercialized in this day and age. We need to focus more on Jesus, instead of what we get. I love the tradition that your family does. That is so wonderful to give Jesus something. A family tradition that we like to do, is to bake goodies and give to friends and neighbors. I had no idea that the North and South were divided on the issue of Christmas. Fascinating! One of our favorite holiday traditions is decorating our Christmas tree.
