Anne Greene here. I love to write about history. I can add suspense and
mystery, and I do inject them into each of my historical romances. I can set my
stories in any setting. I sprinkle in real historic figures that might have
been forgotten, but who performed heroic or evil deeds.
History in romances adds knowledge painlessly to the reader.
Also the reader can enter a simpler time with no electronic gadgets to
interfere with face to face conversation. I create an entirely different world
from our present day one. I use horses and carriages, huge homes or slave
quarters, different fashions from todays from the skin up, and a different life
style entirely from our present-day one.
I create worlds where people are excited about such modern
inventions as gas lights, fabric airplanes, steamships, telegrams,
crank-starting automobiles, ice boxes, and Victrola’s. I create a world where
women stay at home and raise their family. I show the progression of how women
gained independence and self-reliance. I love living in another era and
inviting you, the reader, into my
worlds.

ANGEL WITH STEEL WINGS is a World War II romance where Steel
Magnolias meet Band of Brothers. While doing her part test flying planes as a
Woman Air Service Pilot, WASP, Mandy McCabe escapes her dead-end life in
Hangman’s Hollow, Tennessee. But, can she escape from her past? Major Harvey
Applegate lost his wife to the WASP program, and he’s convinced Yankee Doodle
Gals have no place flying in the war effort. He determines to protect the
remaining WASPs by sending them packing back to the home front. Both Mandy and
Harvey experience immediate attraction, which increases Harvey’s desire to send
Mandy home to safety. Can a man burdened with memories of death undertake added
emotional danger? Will their new love survive the test? One love. Two goals.
Someone has to give.

Thank you for your wonderful post, Anne. I prefer historicals because you can be taken back to a specific time where you might find out how your great grand parents lived or how the West was won just to name a couple of examples. Great, books, great info, great fun!

I enjoy historical romance because, as you say, I painlessly learn some history!!! But contemporary romance, well written, has its' place as well.

My preference is historical fiction books. They make history come alive for me. I feel I understand more how people lived and the things they had to go through. There are so many times when I am reading a book, that I find myself wishing I lived in that time.
ReplyDeleteIs that Sharpie from Nebraska on your book cover? Love to see WWII women getting kudos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good info. kamundsen44ATyahooDOTcom.
ReplyDeleteMe too, love to have real historical characters walk across my scenes. Let's see now, I'v had Gandhi, Lord Louis Mountbatten (Queen Elizabeth's cousin) and several British generals. Using real life is the best in Historical Fiction.
ReplyDeleteI love all types of historical reading. Romances, war books if there's a lot of background & some personal stories in it. I love reading nonfiction historical books also. In nonfiction it's fun & educational when real life characters are in it as mentioned above. I love learning about other time periods & other places, sometimes picturing myself living there. I'm excited about the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love reading! My favorite is historical fiction. I love to learn about history.
ReplyDeleteI love reading historical fiction. I have a degree in history, so historical settings appeal to me more than contemporary settings. I always say that I learn something about the past through historical novels--each author I read does their homework and tries to be as accurate with their details as possible. I love to travel, as well, so reading these books allows me to go to a place I have never before been to and visit a time period that I will never experience for myself.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of historical fiction and I will choose it any time. I enjoyed your post and I appreciate your giveaway.
