  2. Hi Tammie, great question! "A Fresh Start for Elizabeth" is book 3 of a series called The Recipe Box series, in which a single recipe box is handed down through the generations. The books are set about 50 years apart, starting in 1784-ish with the first box. A friend and I developed the idea for the series, but so far I'm the only one to write into it. The idea for this book came from the fact I wanted to set the story in Colorado. As you can imagine, in 1784 and even 1834, there wasn't much to talk about in Colorado, so those stores are set further east. However, by 1884, Denver is here, as are Boulder, Loveland, Estes Park, and more. I thought I'd like a little medical stuff in this story, so I found a tuberculosis sanitarium in Boulder and started there. I love herbal remedies, and have included them in several books, and this seemed like a natural fit, too. Thanks for asking, and good luck in the drawing!

    1. Gwen is a secondary character in my book, A Doctor in the House which was inspired by a combination of the first female doctor commissioned officer in the Army Medical Corps and the country manors England requisitioned for everything from hospitals and school to orphanages and troops barracks. I thought she deserved her own story, but didn't want to do a requisitioned house story, so I looked up other ways nurses served, and I learned about the 96th evac hospital (think M*A*S*H) that made their way across Europe as the Allies pushed German troops back to Germany.
