I love diet Dr. Pepper! You would
think by the name that a doctor invented the soda. Not the case.
Dr. Pepper is the oldest invented
soft drink, which in 1885 by Charles Alderton. He was a young pharmacist at
Morrison's Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas. A past rumor was that Dr. Pepper
was created as a medicine is untrue. Charles liked mixing up fizzy flavors for
fun at the drug store where he worked at the soda fountain serving fizzy drinks when he wasn't working as a pharmacist. He loved the scent of the fruity syrups used to make soda. His
goal was to make his original creation of a soda. He wanted a drink which had
the scent of many of the fruit flavors he loved together.
He had the owner of Morrison's
Pharmacy try his creation, and Mr. Morrison loved it. He named the drink after
a good friend, Dr. Charles Pepper. Mr. Morrison and Mr. Alderton found
the best way to meet the high demand for the drink was to sell the syrup and
ask customers to buy carbonated water and mix the two themselves. They became
the first manufacturer of soda concentrate.
Mr. Alderton grew tired of the
Dr. Pepper business and sold his partnership to Mr. Morrison who then partnered
with Robert Lazenby, a ginger-ale manufacturer. These two men then sold the
soda with the syrup and carbonated drink already combined and kept the name Dr.
Pepper. They presented it at the World's Fair Expo in St. Louis in 1904. The
same fair where the hamburger, hot dog, and ice cream cone were first introduced.
Dr. Pepper is one of the most popular soft drink still sold in the U.S.

Thank you for posting today! I do like Dr. Pepper; it's interesting to hear how it was developed. I'll be praying for the Lord's will in making Liza's Second Chance a movie.
ReplyDeleteMolly, I always thought Coca Cola was the first soft drink invented, so I learned something new from your blog. I actually like Diet Dr. Pepper more than diet Coke, so it was fun to hear about its history. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about the history of Dr. Pepper.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I would suggest that you correct the grammar of this sentence from the start of your post:
"Dr. Pepper is the oldest invented soft drink, which in 1885 by Charles Alderton"
