Jaime Who?

Yeah, that crazy lady behind the coffee mug with the evil grin ... it's me. I'm what I call a "lesser-known" writer probably more known as the Professional Coffee Drinker than by my books (yet to be published).

When I'm not busy being a coffee snob, life is ridiculously full. Two little charges (3 yrs and 9 mos) who I affectionately call Kokomo-Jo and Peter Pan keep me busy after my full days at work as a Director of Hr for a 50+ employee company. Being an HR Director gives me LOTS of fodder for character sketches, although it can also sap me of an mental sanity and leave me wanting when 8:30 pm rolls around, kids are in bed, and I finally can take off my shoes. That's typically when my laptop makes an appearance and the scenes I've composed in my head during the day take life on page.

I hated my husband the first five years after I met him, so we like to stay we experienced the worst of marriage before we ever dated. Oh he was a cocky, self-assured, know-it-all. Of course, I was truly innocent of any antagonistic behavior. ;) We started dating by default because, hey, it's a small town, everyone got married and we were the only singles left. Crazy how he changed so swiftly into a thoughtful, caring, devoted man with a great tan and killer blue eyes (which said daughter inherited). The first fake engagement ring he gave me as a joke didn't go over so well ... but about a year later we finally hitched up a contract of commitment, getting engaged on Halloween and married on April Fool's Day. What can I say? We're not conventional.

SO! If you can't tell, we spend ALL our free time with our church youth group of which my husband is the youth pastor. I've yet to mature so it works out great for me. And, we're excited to take Kokomo-Jo out this summer for her first time rock climbing as she's pretty much conquered our climbing wall in our basement. As for Peter Pan ... he brings out the sappy side of me. Those coffee-eyes, what can I say, they're huge and just beg me to baby my boy. Not to mention he's never to grow up and already shows an infinite grasp of mischief--so yep, Peter Pan he is.

I write, oddly enough, Historical Romance stained with suspense. I'm in it about four manuscripts deep and hopefully getting better. I've had lots of great insights and mentoring and continue to work diligently. As a member of ACFW, there's endless resources at hand, so in God's timing and as He sees fit, my name will be on a book cover someday. In the meantime, I heft my coffee cup in your direction, quickly lick up the coffee that just sloshed over its side, and say, "WELCOME!"

MARCH GIVEAWAY: it's only fitting I offer up a 1/2 lb of Free Trade Jamaican coffee from my local gourmet coffee shop! Comment to win!

  1. Jaime,

You have a good sense of humor. Does that come through in your books? Your story about hating your husband when you first met sounds like something out of a romance novel. :) It's good to have you here.

    1. Vickie - I try and let my humor insert into my writing :) especially in my current WIP. :) My hero and heroine have quite the verbal spars ;) Yes, someday I'll use my personal story as a base for a novel. It was like LIVING a novel for sure! LOL

  2. Great post Jaimie...you have a great sense of humor:) I relate to calling your children by different names...we have 4 teenagers and they all have nicknames too. So great that you write(the few moments you have in your very busy days) Historical Romance with suspense. I've finished my 1st Historical Romantic Suspense manuscript with a smattering of God's supernatural realm. I'm working with my editor right now to 'get it right'(or at least that's the hope:). Can't wait to read one of your books !

  5. Hello Jaime, I can already tell that you are going to bring more laughter to this blog. So glad you are a part of this group. I loved how you said that you hated your husband the first five years after you met him. I met my hubby when I was only about 7 years old and he was 17 years old...he was one of my older sister's friends. In my eyes, he was a loud, annoying hippie. LOL We, too, lived in a very small town where the Jones Family(my family) and the Mitchell Family(hubby's family) were the largest families in town. My mom once said that it would be funny if one day a Mitchell kid and Jones kid got married. Little did she know that it would actually happen....we will be celebrating our 29th anniversary this April. Sorry for blabbing on so.
I really enjoy coffee and would love to win. I gave up coffee for Lent, so I won't be drinking any for awhile..... *sad face* .....God bless!

  6. Jaime, I love your voice and your sense of humor. Not sure I could survive very long in a small town. :) Tried it for about five years. Don't like the city much better. I'm thinking a nice cabin in the woods with a fishing pond, or a house on the beach. ;)

    1. I'm with you and the cabin by a fishing pond. Small towns can be a killer--there are NO secrets. Not that I have any except I occassionally spike my coffee with amaretto creamer and use way too many commas. Whatever. See you around the blog here, Christina! :)

  8. I can already tell I want to read your books. I hope you get published soon. As for coffee I am in love with it. I have to have coffee all the time, when I am not drinking coffee I am drinking water. Every cup of coffee must be followed by a cup of water. Of course reading and coffee go hand in hand in fact I have coffee in hand now. Good Luck and can't wait to read your books!

  9. Ms. Wright,... I love your unconventional approach to marriage! I sort of can relate to you in one regard: where a bloke you'd otherwise never interact with due to his personality flaws and seemingly unending cocky behavior... wells, let's just say, in the years since I first met him, he's matured right before my eyes into a caring father! We're not dating, we never were going too,... but to just see him make this transformation,... its the one time I can say that first impressions were not the whole story to the bloke! I was seriously so happy for him this Christmas, as I was able to see him with his wife! Talk about a complete 360! I think the key is that when men find the right woman for them, it changes them from the inside out!

Free coffee!? Ooh bless my heart!! Next to a bookaway, a coffee offer is one that cannot be refused! My favourite brew is {fair trade/organic} Ethiopian Yirgacheffe! Have you ever had this as an Americano Misto? Its tops! I haven't had a cuppa Jamaician java, so that's enough to get me to come back in March! :) :) I have a feeling I'll be a regular reader/commenter, as I love the interface of this blog + the stories are ones that I tend to gravitate towards naturally!

Never fear, when the timing is right, your books will find the right publisher! Until then, enjoy getting to know your characters and seeing where their stories lead you! :)

  10. Hi Jaime, count me in on Historical Suspense vote. Mine lean in that direction too. Humor is one skill I don't have - in writing or non-writing. Jerry keeps me in stitches, but I haven't gotten the hang of it. So, I'm thrilled to be hanging out with ya - maybe something will rub off.
